We’re Reopening! Stage One

We’re Reopening! Stage One

We are reopening! And we cannot wait to see those pearly whites.

Beginning May 18, our clinic will begin seeing patients with a few restrictions and guidelines. During these times, Dr. Drew and Crew’s top priority continues to be the health and safety of our patients and team members. Every day, we routinely follow the CDC’s Universal Precaution guidelines, including strict surface disinfection and personal protective measures. In addition, our clinic is implementing the following:

  • When you arrive for your scheduled appointment, please call the clinic and remain in your vehicle.
  • One of our team members will call you when your chair is ready.
  • Wearing a face mask is encouraged.

We are excited to begin seeing our wonderful patients again! We also understand that this time can pose a variety of questions. If you have any concerns or questions regarding your upcoming appointment, we encourage you to call our office: 479-242-3739.

We ask for your patience as we adjust to seeing patients at a more frequent rate. During this time and all times, please continue to maintain a healthy oral routine at home to help fight against tooth decay! We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Protecting Your Teeth Against Tooth Decay During COVID-19

Protecting Your Teeth Against Tooth Decay During COVID-19

There’s been a lot of changes in the past couple of weeks, but one thing isn’t changing the way it works: our old nemesis, tooth decay. With adjustments to routines and finding new ways to organize our days, we must continue to maintain good oral hygiene. Dental offices might be postponing non-emergency appointments, but that doesn’t mean your oral care has to stop altogether! Here are our main tips for taking care of those pearly whites and help fight tooth decay during this time:

  1. Wash your hands – wash for 20 seconds before and after any personal dental care
  2. Brush twice a day for at least 2 minutes – be sure to get those hard-to-reach areas!
  3. Floss once a day – this helps remove bacteria and build up in places that a brush can’t reach
  4. Limit sugary drinks and snacks – too many sugars can harm the surface of teeth and lead to cavities
  5. Keep your dental tools clean – place your toothbrush, floss, and any other items that go into your mouth in places that don’t touch other items

With a well-kept oral routine, you can help protect your teeth against decay during this time!

Although we are closed for routine cleanings and appointments, please note that we are open for dental emergencies. If you are experiencing extreme pain or swelling in the mouth, please contact our office and we will help provide the care that you need.

Our office wishes the best for our patients now and always. We look forward to seeing you all in our office again!

Orthodontics at Dr. Drew and Crew

Crooked teeth?  Slight underbite?  Ugly spaces? An improved smile is within your reach!  Dr. Drew and Crew is proud to offer orthodontic services to our patients. To provide the best possible care, we have a three-step process before braces installation.

Step 1:  The Orthodontic Opinion

Think of this appointment as the ‘kick-off’ to your orthodontic journey.  Dr. Ellenwood will personally provide you with a general overview of your orthodontic options.  This appointment is of no charge.

Step 2:  The Orthodontic Work-Up

The Orthodontic Work-Up is the data-gathering appointment.  We’ll get together information needed to correctly diagnose and create a treatment plan.  The Work-Up includes an orthodontic examination, orthodontic photos, diagnostic impressions of both upper and lower teeth, and two orthodontic X-rays:  A Panorex, around the head and a Cephalometric, from the side of the head. These X-rays show the relation of the teeth within the jaws, the relation of both jaws to each other, and the relation of all these to the face.

Step 3:  The Orthodontic Consultation

About three weeks after the Work-Up is the Consultation.  At this appointment, Dr. Ellenwood will discuss the overall objectives of your treatment and a course of action.  Here is when we encourage our patients to ask questions! We want to make sure you feel comfortable and knowledgeable about your personal orthodontic treatment plan.  Also, this is when you can appoint for starting orthodontics and you can set up payment arrangements. The Orthodontic Consult is included in the Work-Up cost.

Dr. Ellenwood uses a method of straightening teeth called Tip-Edge, a special bracketing system that tips the teeth to tip to the desired positions then proceeds to move the roots to their final positions.  This movement helps to keep heavy stresses off the anchor molars and correct difficult bites.

We would be happy to discuss your desires and determine if we could help you or if you would need the attention of a specialist.  Just think, a winning smile is within your reach!

February: National Children’s Dental Health Month

February: National Children’s Dental Health Month

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and we are excited to help promote the benefits of good oral health to children, caregivers, teachers, and those around them! This year’s NCDHM campaign slogan is “Fluoride in water prevents cavities! Get it from the tap!”

Did you know that tooth decay (i.e. cavities) is the most common chronic condition of childhood in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)? Roughly 1 in 5 children ages 5-11 have at least one untreated decayed tooth. That’s 1 in 5 too many! Dr. Drew and Crew wants to help children beat this statistic and have a healthy, strong smile.

The good news is that tooth decay is preventable! For more than 60 years, water fluoridation has proved to be a safe and cost-effective way to reduce dental caries. Today, water fluoridation is estimated to reduce tooth decay by 20%-40%! By choosing to drink from the tap and having children brush their teeth using tap water, you’re greatly reducing the chances of decay!

Some other healthy-smile tips to keep in mind are:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste
  • Clean between your teeth daily
  • Eat a healthy diet that limits sugary beverages and snacks
  • See your dentist regularly for prevention and treatment of oral disease

Creating healthy oral habits at a young age helps protect teeth against the potential damage of disease and decay. Contact Dr. Drew and Crew today to schedule your child’s appointment!

New Year, New Insurance? No Stress!

New Year, New Insurance? No Stress!

The beginning of a new year brings an array of changes. From wondering how the last year flew by to deciding on new resolutions, there is a lot that seems to happen during the annual transition. At Dr. Drew and Crew, we understand all the changes that come with a new year — including new insurance. We keep our process simple so you don’t have to stress about updating information with us.

Updating Your Insurance Information

If either you or your employer has changed insurance carriers for the year, all we need is your new insurance carrier’s information or your newly issued card. We realize not all insurance companies issue cards. No problem. If you did not receive a new card, we’ll be able to find your information through the insurance company’s website by using your Social Security Number.

That’s it! No stress at all.

At the time of your next appointment, our team will do the rest. If you have any questions regarding this process or any concerns, our crew is happy to discuss those items with you.

We want to wish all of our patients a wonderful new year! We look forward to seeing you throughout the year to help you achieve your dental resolutions. Whether you’re looking to straighten your teeth, achieve a whiter smile, or increase your oral health, we’re here to help. Give us a call today to schedule your appointment!

Give the gift of healthy smiles

From enjoying the holidays with family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors, there’s a lot to be grateful for during this time of year. Are you grateful for your healthy smile? Whether your teeth are in tip-top shape, or need a little bit of love and care, giving the gift of a healthy smile (for someone else OR yourself!) can help improve overall oral care.

The holidays come with countless baked goods and sugary candy, and as much as we love them, they’re not always the best for our teeth. Below is our list of stocking stuffers that can help keep your teeth merry and white this holiday season!
